Design Of Sarda Fall: A Cost-Effective and Low-Cutting Solution for Canal Falls

The stability of body wall should be tested by usual procedure when the drops exceeding 1.5 m are to be designed. In the body wall drain holes may be provided at the u/s bed level to dry out the canal during closures for maintenance, etc.

Provision of other accessories like upstream wings, staggered blocks on the cistern floor, downstream wings, bed and side pitching is generally done on the basis of thumb rules. For big structures, however, actual design calculations may be done. For general arrangement see Fig. 19.13.

(iii) Side walls in expansion may be flared out from vertical to 1: 1 if the earth fill behind is not problematic like black cotton soil. In such cases the side walls may be designed as vertical gravity walls.

Sarda type fall is the combination of small-sized falls resulting in gradual energy dissipation of the water without hydraulic jump formation. Such combination is adopted for weaker strata as the depth of cutting is minimized. It is also economical to build to sarda type fall.

A major strength of this study was the randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled design. The placebo control made it possible for us to correctly attribute the improvement in pain seen among participants in this trial to the effect of trial participation, and not to the individual supplements themselves. Also, we utilized multiple components of response, such as VAS pain, quality of life, catastrophic thinking, and pain medication usage, which allowed us to more accurately gauge the effectiveness of the interventions. Another strength of this trial was the use of serum 25(OH)D and ω-3 fatty acids to measure compliance with study medications. Compliance is always a large concern in the design of trials of months-long duration, and this study had the additional challenge that participants were all adolescents. Differentiating endometriosis from primary dysmenorrhea via surgical confirmation was central to this study, because previous trials have already demonstrated symptomatic improvement in women with primary dysmenorrhea after supplementation with vitamin D and ω-3 fatty acids. The only way to definitively diagnose endometriosis is by surgical confirmation (38); however, it can be difficult to find an adequate number of participants, especially in the adolescent age range, that have undergone surgery.

Companion Robotics and Domestic Assistance Robots designed specifically and exclusively to interact socially with humans for a prolonged period of time and to provide companionship (e.g., a study investigates attitudes towards the robots NAO and Darwin; [42]); or robots that are designed to help with domestic chores, as well as provide social interaction (e.g., a study investigating the evaluation of a socially assistive robot in a smart home setting; [43]);

Healthcare Robots designed to help patients, doctors or healthcare providers (e.g., a study investigating the attitudes and preferences of staff, residents, and relatives of residents in a retirement village towards a health-care robot; [2]).

Second, the full-text of the identified papers were considered. Where the full-text was not available, the authors of the paper were contacted or the articles were obtained via an interlibrary loan request. Since our research questions focused on social robots exclusively, we used a pre-specified definition checklist (see Supplementary Materials 2) in order to decide whether an article was relevant or not. For example, papers investigating attitudes toward industrial robots were not included unless they also measured attitudes toward social robots. No limitations were placed on the design of the primary studies and studies with randomised and non-randomised field and lab experiments, questionnaires and surveys, interviews, pilot studies, and thesis were all included if they met the other inclusion criteria. The flow of papers through the review is detailed in Fig. 1.

We first extracted bibliographic information from the articles, this included the date of publication, the country where the research was conducted, the sample size and demographics of the sample (i.e., mean age, gender, and cultural or ethnic background), the domain of application, the design of the study, and the name, design, and capabilities of the social robot. The type of outcome (categorised as general attitudes, affective attitudes, cognitive attitudes, behavioural attitudes, trust, anxiety, or acceptance) and details of the measures used to assess each outcome (e.g., the NARS) were identified and extracted next.Footnote 2

Finally, we found evidence suggesting that people are fairly neutral in terms of the anxiety that they report with respect to social robots. This finding may, to a certain extent, be a product of the general tendency for social robots to be designed in such a way as to appear less threatening. For example, NAO, a generally well-liked robot [42, 78, 79], was used in 45% of the studies measuring anxiety and may have contributed to the overall neutral to positive valence for anxiety and trust.

Design strategy is the term used to describe the nexus between corporate strategy and design thinking. Corporate strategy is the traditional method that businesses and other similar entities use to identify, plan, and achieve their long term objectives and goals. Design Thinking is a methodology that provides a solution-based approach to solving problems by engaging the end-users.

As in war and business, we need a way to put a strategy into effect, and that requires a methodology, a framework, a roadmap, and a way of thinking. In order to implement a design strategy, it requires a strategic thinking mindset.

From a design perspective, strategic thinking encourages designers to look at the design process as a problem-solving mechanism, starting by identifying the problem and working with both the client and the team to solve that problem.

Creating and executing a strategy is both art and science. Much like design, a strategic mindset is practiced and improved upon over time. Here is a useful framework for implementing strategic thinking in design:

Strategic thinking, even in design, is a process that may seem a bit uncomfortable at first, but with a bit of persistence, it will create a stronger bond between the client and the design team, and show the value of design in an entirely new light.

The lead designer agrees to do a refresh. The project moves forward starting with a standard questionnaire for the client to fill out. Once the form comes back, user research is begun (competitive analysis, etc.), and the team proceeds with the project.

The lead designer works with the team to assess what the client has asked for, addresses any current constraints they may have (time, schedule, staff, etc.), and decides to move forward with the project.

(a) Identity. (1) Canned tuna is the food consisting of processed flesh of fish of the species enumerated in paragraph (a)(2) of this section, prepared in one of the optional forms of pack specified in paragraph (a)(3) of this section, conforming to one of the color designations specified in paragraph (a)(4) of this section, in one of the optional packing media specified in paragraph (a)(5) of this section, and may contain one or more of the seasonings and flavorings specified in paragraph (a)(6) of this section. For the purpose of inhibiting the development of struvite crystals, sodium acid pyrophosphate may be added in a quantity not in excess of 0.5 percent by weight of the finished food. It is packed in hermetically sealed containers and so processed by heat as to prevent spoilage. It is labeled in accordance with the provisions of paragraph (a)(8) of this section. 2ff7e9595c
